new york - things to do

New York City has a never ending list of things to do! Here are some of my favourite things and recommendations.

  1. Go to a broadway show! If you have never been to a broadway show before I recommend seeing Wicked or Lion King first. These tickets you will have to buy in advance and they never go on sale. If you are easy going with what you want to see check out TKTS for same day tickets discounted.

    Shows I recommend seeing:

    • Lion King (Great for the whole family. This is my favourite show, I have seen it many times and never get tired of it.)

    • Wicked (Great for the whole family. I have seen it multiple times and never get tired of it.)

    • School of Rock

    • Hamilton

    • Aladdin (If you are wanting a Disney show but Lion King prices are looking too high this is a great choice!)

    • Cinderella

    • Anastastia

    • Waitresses (Great if you are wanting a good laugh.)

    • Book of Mormon (The humour can be a lot for some people so read about it before watching.)

    • Frozen

    • Mean Girls

  2. Go to the whisper corner in Grand Central Station

  3. Walk the High Line

    • You can walk from the Vessel to Chelsea Market and explore the Meatpacking District.

  4. Visit Chelsea Market

  5. Visit one of New Yorks wonderful art galleries including the Met, the Moma, the Guggenheim or the Whitney

  6. Visit a museum including the American Museum of Natural History or the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

  7. Explore the New York City library followed by dinner at the Bryant Park Grill.

  8. Do a food walking tour. This is a great way to see different parts of the city while eating / drinking some of New Yorks best food and drinks!

  9. Go to Yankee’s Stadium! This is one of my favourite things to do on a nice summer night. The stadium is a quick subway ride away and tickets are usually reasonably priced.

  10. Go to MSG, it is amazing! See if there is a concert on, Knicks game or a Rangers game. There is always something happening at MSG you are sure to find something you will love.

  11. Walk the Upper East Side to get bagels! H&H bagels are my favourite. They were located not far from my apartment. You will typically find a lineup of locals out the door on weekends which is always a great sign.

  12. Take the Staten Island Ferry. It is a free way to see the skyline and the Statue of Liberty.

  13. Go Kayaking on the Hudson River

  14. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge to visit Jacque Torres bakery. This is one of the worlds most famous chocolatiers and they happen to make one of my favourite chocolate chip cookies!

    • The bridge does take a long time to walk some I typically walk half way or will go to Brooklyn then walk back to Manhattan.

  15. Take the hop on hop off water taxi to explore the city and get out on the water.

The tips and ideas I can give you are endless but I hope this is a good starting point for you to explore my favourite city!
